New law cracks down on P2P pirates

Is it just me or can you also see this leading to absolute disaster..?

File-swappers who distribute a single copy of a prerelease movie on the Internet can be imprisoned for up to three years, according to a bill that President Bush signed into law on Wednesday.

Asteroid belt zooms around alien star

Alien asteroids are playing a life-threatening game of dodgems in a nearby solar system, say astronomers who have found a remarkable asteroid belt around a Sun-like star just 40 light-years from Earth.

The star, known as HD69830, is a bit smaller and younger than the Sun. But unlike other stars of its type, HD69830's starlight reveals a lot of rocky debris in orbit.

In particular, the material appears to be a mineral called forsterite, the same stuff detected in the tail of Comet Hale-Bopp and a common volcanic mineral on Earth.

"It's always nice to see familiar things in foreign places," says planetary scientist Professor Jonathan Lunine of the University of Arizona.

The forsterite around HD69830 appears to have condensed from hot gasses earlier in the star's life in a manner similar to how rocky materials got their start in our own solar system, Lunine says.

Astronomers working with NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope detected the forsterite around HD69830.

The alien asteroid belt may be a planetary construction site, planetary destruction zone or just a region around the star where planets are unable to form, says California Institute of Technology astronomer Dr Charles Beichman.

Awesome Band: The Arcade Fire

Someone on irc "in #xfce" pointed me in the direction of this band today: The Arcade Fire

They do some pretty amazing stuff "kinda reminds me of the Pixies" and they are on one of my favorite labels: Merge Records

Here's a stream from Merge: Neighborhood #2 (Laika)

It's pretty rare for me to actually meet someone online in irc who is into the same music I am. Which is one of the reasons i am posting this, it is for sure note worthy...

Scientists Serve Up 'Perfect' Liquid

Some very interesting stuff...

New state of matter more remarkable than predicted -- raising many new questions

The four detector groups conducting research at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) -- a giant atom "smasher" located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory -- say they’ve created a new state of hot, dense matter out of the quarks and gluons that are the basic particles of atomic nuclei, but it is a state quite different and even more remarkable than had been predicted. In peer-reviewed papers summarizing the first three years of RHIC findings, the scientists say that instead of behaving like a gas of free quarks and gluons, as was expected, the matter created in RHIC’s heavy ion collisions appears to be more like a liquid.

AGO????

I feel i have to comment on this!

When AGO first opened there doors again "after the site re-design" I posted a theme, Munja-Remix, which has been on gnome-look.org for a long while now. After posting over two weeks ago I finally got a response, granted it wasn't what i was looking for, but it was at least a response non-the-less.

Rejected: w/ a link pointing to submission policy? No explanation? No reasoning behind the rejection, just a link?

This is just plan unacceptable! and is the last strike in my opinion against this site. Not only do they take a year and a day to post yr themes, after being submitted, "unless yr someone of importance" but they also don't explain them selves after rejecting them.

Not only that, but I feel that the new maintainer is just to wrapped up in what he thinks "themes should look like" and not what others "the user base" wants. Because when it comes down to it, this theme site is for the Gah-nome user base.

Am I mistaken, but isn't that what all theme sites are for? If I wanted anal(ly) correct themes, I would download the gnome-themes tarball and only use those.

All this aside, when I emailed him about the rejection he at least replied quickly and explained him self, which I appreciate. But it doesn't change anything, he is still running the site like a federal prison...

The reason for my themes rejection "one of them" was because I included stock icons "w/ an iconrc file" which according to there "new" policy is a no-no. This is in my opinion a mistake...

Why? Because anyone who has ever messed w/ icons and themes knows that no matter what you do there are always going to be icons that don't correctly show up in GTK2 apps or Gnome apps w/ out using the iconrc file. This is mostly do to the fact that the majority of icon themes are just flat out missing the icons you need or aren't using the correct naming scheme. This is where iconrc files can be yr friend and is why i am guessing there aren't more themes being posted on AGO.

This is one policy i think they need to re-think, i also think Thomas Wood should have a more opened mind and not just post themes that fit into his narrow minded ideals of what a theme should be and look like. There are more people in this world then just you and the Gnome-devs...

Oh yea! In his reply he says my theme just looks like a color variation of Clearlook. :) Ok, either he didn't look at the theme or didn't even bother to read the README file?

You tell me: Clearlook & Munja-Remix

This is the kinda bullshit I have come to expect from the Official Gnome Theme site and the reason i told him to just remove my account...

Boredom and it's amazing friend Computer

Lest see??? Besides the overwhelming amount of boredom I've been experiencing lately nothing is really happening. Well??? I did remove my NetBSD install! Why you ask? Because it was time...

I have been listening to lots of Helium & Mary Timony lately, which isn't really anything new, but like everything else in my life music goes through phases. Getting stuck on a group of sounds is a good thing :)

Did I mention I'm bored as all hell? Probably why I've been on myspace.com, which i gotta say has the worse site design I have ever seen... It's true! It's really fucking awful!!!!

Anyway... I'm here, yr there, and we are no where near each other, so see ya...
